I first became acquainted with the Spectrum as a pre-service teacher in the 1990s. At that time, it was as especially significant part of my professors' teaching (and my learning). In my 10+ years as a physical education teacher, I continually aimed to implement teaching styles that best met the teaching context and curricular goals. While doing this I also purposely spent considerable effort avoiding the "overuse" of direct styles (especially practice) that were evidenced in many of my colleagues' classes.
Now, as a university professor, I am educating and encouraging my pre-service teachers to do the same.
